Sunday Truck-In II

Turkey Race is HISTORY!!!

A total of 56 entries were registered Sunday in the Second Annual Oval Turkey Race.  Classes run were Losi Mini Sliders, Losi 10th Sliders, SuperStock, ProStock, Outlaw Sprint Cars, and "Dirt" Late Models, where drift cars with late model bodies circled the track- sideways!
  Here's how it went down...

Turkey Race is HISTORY!!!

In the Losi Mini Sliders, Chuck "Orange Julius" Bolin nabbed TQ away from Colin Hardy in the last round.  In the A Feature, ChuTurkey Race, turkey!!!ck went on to win, with Colin Hardy and Wade Krull rounding out the top three.  Remainder of the A was Chris Haines, Daren Miller, and Michael Thayer.

In the Losi 10th Sliders, your TQ Kyle Pittenger ran into some issues right at the start, turning over the win to Chuck Bolin, with Colin Hardy in second and Kyle ending up third.

In SuperStock, the largest field with 19 cars, your TQ Travis Russell looked to be the car to beat through qualifying.  Your D main winner was Chris Haines, followed by Cory Ellinger and Michael Thayer.  In the C-Main, Taylor Baney won with Lenny Leyba and Scott Haines rounding out the top three.  The B Main saw Nathan Hughes take the win over Kyle Grindle and Jason Clevenger- the most improved car over the weekend.  In the A Feature, Travis took off and never looked back.  A pileup on lap one really hurt Anthony Searls, who had one of the fastest cars all weekend.  Young Thiler Claxton drove a great race to finish second, with Jeff Conde and Jerral Whaley battling for third, which Conde took in the end.  The rest of the A Feature had Anthony Searls fifth and Josh Carlton finishing sixth.

In ProStock, Travis Russell again was TQ with a stout 80 lap run.  After round one, qualifiers 2-4 were separated by less than .5 sec!  In the B Main, Jason Haines took the victory over Jesse Carlton and Jon Tully.  In the A Feature, Travis got a good start and never looked back.  The second qualifier (me) spun the tires at the start, and nearly made a mess (I had Michigan boys behind me- I ripped it for all it was worth!).  Travis was able to take off and win the main, I eventually gapped out from Dave Zipp and Johnny "Tanlines" Sparks, who finished three and four.  Ken Bajdek finished fifth, with Dave Claxton and Dustin Williams rounding out the field.

In Outlaw Sprints, Your TQ was Jon "Tooley" Tully with a blistering 76 4:00!  In the B-Main, Josh Carlton won, with Kyle Pittenger second and Dave Goodnight third.  In the A Feature, your TQ Jon Tully went on to win, with Ken Bajdek second, and Travis Russell finishing third.  Pete Russell and Dustin Shriver rounded out the top five.

Last class of the day was probably the most fun to watch.  Imagine watching six late models come out of turn four to start- sideways!  Late Model-bodied touring cars with handmade drift tires slung it sideways around the track.  In the end, your TQ (me) held onto win, with Dustin Shriver second and Ken Selner third.  Ryan Flatt, Dave Goodnight and Mike Weaver rounded out the field.  (I thank Ron Flatt for borrowing me the car, and sorry about the motor!)

On behalf of everyone at Michiana RC, we'd like to thank EVERYONE for coming out today making the race a huge success!  We'd like to thank Pete and Travis Russell for the unequalled support as well!  Also, on behalf of Travis and I- thank all the racers (43) that joined up for the Northern Indiana Points Series!  It's gonna be a great series!

Oval Racers, see y'all next  Sunday at Pete Russell's Hobby Shop in Elkhart for the Toys for Tots race!  (Bring a new, unopened toy for the Toys for Tots, and race for free!)  Or, bring a toy, and watch some great oval racing on one of the toughest tracks in oval racing!

 SEEYA THERE!!!

SUNDAY TRUCK-IN WRITEUP

In stadium truck novice, former points champ Sean Ransberger was plagued by problems all day, and missed the show. In the B Main, though, he dominated it. Second in the B was Nick Loveland, followed by newcomer Brian Connors. In the A, eight trucks battled it out for the win. In a tight main where the top six trucks each took a shot at the lead, Donn Chupp kept it steady and held off the hard-charging TQ Ryan Flatt who, after wrecking made a late charge. Justin Weaver rounded out the top three, with Mike Ringer and Christian Falkowski completing the top five.

In stadium truck advance, it was the Andrew Chupp show. Andrew was consistently the fastest truck, TQ'ing and laying down the fastest laps all day long. In the A Main, Andrew took off from P1 and never looked back, winning the main. The father and son duo of Ken and Zac Donathen rounded out the top three, with Aaron Cyrier and Mike Weaver rounding out the top five.

In short course, the B Main saw some great action, with Mike Schrager taking the win over Donn Chupp and newcomer Rick Kadzinski who got bumped out of the A on the last round. In the A Main, ten trucks battled it out for the win. In the end, class TQ Andrew Chupp held it steady, and held on for the win. Noah Raymond and Colton Kruse rounded out the top three, putting on a great battle. Zac Donathen, who consistently clicked off the fastest laps of the day was fourth, and a great job by Brandon Caudill who squeaked into the show, drove to a great fifth place finish.

2010/2011 Oval Season is coming soon!

Michiana RC's Oval Season starts soon!  Stay tuned!

Alrighty, here's the full race report from the Madness!

Starting at noon time on Saturday, racers started piling into Michiana RC for the Fourth Annual Oval Madness. Just about all the local racers, and some of our friends from Michigan, Ohio and other areas made the trip, with 78 entries in total!

In Losi Mini Sliders, it was Dave Kemper taking the early TQ, but Daren Miller came back to TQ the event. In the B-Main, Mark Linn held off his dad, Steve to take the win. In the A-Feature, Daren and Dave swapped the lead, and Daren Miller went on to win the A-Feature, with Dave all over his tail at the end- the margin of finish was .383! NIPS points leader Chuck "Orange Julius" Bolin qualified and finished third overall. "Slider" Wade Krull was fourth, with Matt Laughlin fifth and Tim Waaso sixth.

In the 10th Scale Sliders, it was all Kyle Pittenger, TQ'ing and winning the A-Feature in convincing fashion. Colin Hardy finished second, with Chuck Bolin finishing third. Jim Clark was a scratch in the feature.

SuperStock was the largest class, with 33 total entries! Your current Snowbirds champ Brian Deel TQ'ed the event over Travis Russell and Anthony Searls.
In the F-Main, Taylor Baney cruised to victory over Brandon Caudill and Scott Stewart. In the E-Main, Scott Haines took the win over Jason Clevenger and Jason Hughes. Nathan Hughes, Michael Dnacy and Daren Miller rounded out the E-Main.
In the D-Main, Cory Ellinger took the win over the tight battle between Charlie McLeod and Lenny Leyba, who finished second and third, .249 apart at the line. Kenny Selner, Mike Linn and Terry Smith rounded out the D-Main.
In the C-Main, Kyle Grindle led early, but lost the lead to Tim Waaso, who took the win over Thiler Claxton and Kyle Grindle, with Doug Thornton, Michael Thayer and Josh Carlton rounding out the field.
The B-Main saw Christian Falkowski run away with the early lead, only to be caught and passed by Corey Bedwell at lap 66, who went on to win. Christian ended up second, with Jeremy Smith, Bob Hendry, Jesse Carlton and Bobby Blount rounding out the B-Main.
The A-Feature had Brian Deel lead wire to wire, with Travis Russell close behind, with Anthony Searls finishing third. Dave Hoaglin, Randy Wagoner and Charlie "C3" Flanagan rounded out the top six in the show.

Pro Stock once again saw Brian Deel take the TQ honors over Todd Falkowski and Travis Russell.
In the D-Main, Michael Dancy took the win with Steve Williams and John Sevison in second and third. Jeff Conde was a scratch in the main.
In the C-Main, Mr. Excitement himself, Jon Tully took the win over Ronnie Robinson, Josh Carlton and Jim Clark.
In the B-Main, Johnny "Tanlines" Sparks and David Claxton put on a good battle finishing 1-2, .724 apart in the end. Dustin Williams was third, with Jason Haines and Ken Bajdek rounding out the B.
In the A-Feature, Brian Deel took the early lead with Todd Falkowski in tow. Todd caught Brian in traffic and made the pass. Contact between the two allowed Travis to get by Brian, for a Falkowski, Russell, and Deel 1-2-3. Derek Lanway finished fourth, with Charlie "C3" Flanagan and Mark Ciecek rounding out the feature.

In Outlaw Sprints, it was decided to run 7 in the A, as one car in the B scratched. Ken Bajdek took TQ honors just over Travis Russell and Jon Tully. Ken took the early lead, but couldn't navigate lapped traffic, ultimately ending his race early. Travis Russell drove a clean race to take the A-Feature win over Jon Tully and Pete Russell. Doug Graber, Jesse Carlton, Ken Bajdek and Kyle Pittenger rounded out the A-Feature.

Lastly, the "Dirt Late Models" ran, with Dustin Shriver TQ'ing the event. These are touring cars with drift tires made of ABS or PVC, and late model bodies. In the A-Feature, Dustin ran away and never looked back, taking the win. Dave Goodnight and Pat Syson battled back-and-forth the whole race, with Dave taking second from Pat. Ken Selner took fourth, with Ryan Flatt taking fifth.

In short, the Madness was one awesome race! If you missed it, sorry about your luck!

A great amount of thanks go out to Ken Donathen and Pat Syson- tech ran great all day (with the exception of the temp gun disappearing). A special thank you goes out to Charlie Flanagan / Muddslide Motorsports, as well as Travis and Pete Russell of Pete Russell's Hobby Shop / russellrc.com for all of the door prizes donated.

See ya next year!!!!!
